Week 6 NFL: Late Afternoon Games!

The late afternoon games feature a marquee showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady are set to square off.

Late Afternoon Games

Miami Dolphins (-400) vs. New York Jets (+300)... Spread: Dolphins (-8.5)

The Dolphins are coming off an impressive and shocking performance over the San Fransisco 49ers. In week 5, they dominated the 49ers with a 43-17 victory and are now emerging as a super bowl contender (not). They are still an average football team on the rise, but are still led by the most inconsistent QB in history, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Despite their impressive week 5 performance, the 2-3 Dolphins offense severely lacks playmakers and RB Myles Gaskin has been one of the few bright spots. In week 5, he had 91 yards form scrimmage and 1 TD on the day. On the defensive side of the ball, the Dolphins pass defense has been very steady and has managed to limit high powered offenses thus far in 2020. In week 5, they chased QB Jimmy Garoppolo to the bench and only allowed 17 points to a pretty efficient offense under coach Kyle Shanahan.

The 0-5 Jets have been horrendous, and now QB Joe Flacco is under centre as the starter with QB Sam Darnold out. The Jets will also be without their starting RB Le'Veon Bell as he was released by the team earlier this week and picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs. Bell is arguably one of the worst signings in NFL history considering the money he received compared to the lack of production as a Jet. Now, we have to turn back the clock a few years because the new starting RB is Frank Gore. He will look to pick up the slack by providing the Jets a 'Frank Gore' stat line of 20 carries for 30 yards and 1 TD. Also, the Jets have been horrible on defense as well and I don't think they'll be able to handle the Dolphins offense at the moment. I would have never guessed that the Dolphins would be -9.5 point favourites this year, but here we are. I wouldn't touch this game from a betting perspective, but the Jets are the worst team in football and are getting blown out every game. Let's take the Dolphins here to pick up the convincing win and move to 3-3.

Prediction: Dolphins -8.5 (-105)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+130) vs.Green Bay Packers (-150)... Spread: Packers (-2.5)

The Packers have looked dominant this year so far and are fresh off a bye week. They are 4-0 and are coming off a convincing 30-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons. In week 4, the Packers managed to put up 30 points without their top 2 WR's Davante Adams and Allen Lazard. But, Adams is listed active for this week and the Packers will get their best offensive weapon back for QB Aaron Rodgers. In week 4, Rodgers threw for 327 yards and 4 TD's, but the Falcons secondary has been brutal all year, so we saw that coming despite a depleted WR bunch. Also, RB Aaron Jones continued his impressive season by putting up 111 yards from scrimmage and 1 TD in week 4. He now has 6 TD's already in 2020 and he will most likely add to that total against the Bucs. The Packers defense is nothing special, but they've done enough to win football games and make key stops to allow Rodgers and the offense to pull away in games.

On the other side of the field, the Bucs have been a very inconsistent team this year. They are 3-2 and coming off a crushing 20-19 loss to the Chicago Bears in week 5. QB Tom Brady has had a very up-and-down year in his first season with the Bucs. In week 5, he only threw for 253 yards and 1 TD. But, he was facing a stellar Bears defense and he should have an easier time this week going up against this Packers team. However, the offense has had a boat load of injuries this year, which has limited their ability to get rolling. But, they will get their all-star WR Chris Godwin back this week and he will look to have an immediate impact against an average Packers defense. He will join WR Mike Evans on the outside in what could be the best 1-2 WR punch in the NFL... if old man Brady can get them the ball consistently. I believe it's safer to go with the more consistent team here in what should be a close game. Let's take the Packers to go into Tampa and move to 5-0 on the season.

Prediction: Packers -2.5 (-115)
