UFC Fight Night: UFC Vegas 5 Main Card Predictions!
Sat, Aug 1 / 9:00 PM EDT. UFC APEX, Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC Vegas 5 may not have the biggest names on the UFC roster, but we are going to have some bangers on Saturday night.
Middleweight Matchup (185)- Kevin Holland (17-5-0) vs. Trevin Giles (12-2-0)
At 27 years old, Holland appears to be finally putting all his tools together and becoming the fighter we all thought he would be. He is an athletic specimen standing at 6'3 with an 81" reach. Also, he is known for being a devastating finisher with a 82% finishing rate. 47% of those finishes have been by KO/TKO and 35% have been by submission. He is coming off a 40 seconds KO win over Anthony Hernandez back in May and is itching to get back into the octagon to build off his quick victory.
Giles is another athletic specimen, but much stockier than Holland standing at 6'0 with a 74" reach. Therefore, Holland will have 7" reach advantage in this fight. Giles is 1-2 in his last three fights with both losses coming by submission. Another thing to consider is that Giles is a police officer, so I really question how much he's been able to train under the current circumstances. So look for Giles who is not known for his cardio to get much sloppier as the fight progresses.
Bodog Moneyline: Holland (-235) vs. Giles (+185)
Prediction: Holland (-235)
Bulldogs Risky Bet: Holland wins inside distance (+125)
Lightweight Matchup (155)- Lando Vannata (11-4-2) vs. Bobby Green (25-10-1)
On Saturday, these two will step into the octagon for the second time against each other. Their first matchup came in October 2017 and it resulted in a Draw after Vannata landed an illegal knee, which resulted in a point deduction. Now, they can settle the score in what is expected to be a highly entertaining back and forth fight. Vannata is without a doubt the flashier fighter as he likes to use spinning kicks and unique attacks (as shown below), while Green feels more comfortable throwing with his hands. Expect a lot of volume in this fight as Green lands on average 5.15 strikes per minute, compared to Vannata's 4.72 strikes per minute. I wouldn't be surprised if this one ends up in a close split decision, but I can see Green landing more with a simple approach and getting the nod in the judge's scorecards.
Bodog Moneyline: Vannata (-155) vs. Green (+125)
Bulldogs Live Dog: Green (+125)
Bulldogs Risky Bet: Green by Decision (+225)
Welterweight Matchup (170)- Vincente Luque (18-7-1) vs. Randy Brown (12-3-0)
This fight has 'Fight of the Night' written all over it. Will Luque's chin ever crack? This man has been in WARS in the UFC and he is one of my favourite fighters. The UFC APEX in Las Vegas is a smaller octagon, and I think this plays right into Luque's brawling style. Brown likes to stay on the outside to use his length and reach to pick his opponents apart. Brown has the tools and capability to be the first one to knock Luque out, but Luque has gone to wars with Stephen Thompson, Niko Price, and Mike 'the goat' Perry. If those guys couldn't knock him out, I have a difficult time seeing Brown bringing something to the table that he hasn't seen before. Brown is 2-1 in his last 3 fights that included a weird KO loss to Niko Price in July 2018 (as shown below). This is his biggest test to date and I am excited for this matchup, I'm going to ride with Luque to outlast Brown in this one.
Bodog Moneyline: Luque (-205) vs. Brown (+165)
Prediction: Luque (-205)
Bulldogs Risky Bet - Luque by KO/TKO (+200)
