UFC Fight Night: Main Event- Thiago Santos vs Glover Teixeira Odds, Preview, and Predictions
The main event on Saturday night features 2 of the top light heavyweights in the division fighting for a chance for UFC gold. The 2 Brazilians, Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira, will square off in the main event to see who will inch one step closer to a title shot!
Light Heavyweight Matchup (205): Thiago Santos (21-7-0) vs Glover Teixeira (31-7-0)
Father time has been generous to Teixeira. He's coming off one of the most impressive performances of his career by beating down Anthony Smith in May 2020 with a TKO finish in the 5th round. At 41 years old, Teixeira is making one last run for the title. He's on a 4 fight win streak with his last loss coming to Corey 'Pound 4 Pound GOAT' Anderson in July 2018. Teixeira can beat his opponents in many ways, but he's known as a finisher as he has only gone to decision in 14% of his victories. He has very crisp boxing and likes to stand and bang with his opponents, but he may have to resort to his ground game in this fight against the hard hitting Santos. Even though Teixeira has a 59% KO/TKO rate in his victories, he tends to take punishment as well because he absorbs on average 3.87 significant strikes per minute. This could prove costly on Saturday night because Santos has one shot knockout power that can end the fight at any point. Teixeira's grappling in this fight could be the difference for him to wear down Santos and find a late finish in this 5 round main event.
On the other side of the octagon, we have 'The Hammer,' Santos. He's had a very long layoff as his last fight came in July 2019 when he fought Jon Jones for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Despite tearing multiple ligaments in his knee during that fight, he managed to only lose by split decision to arguably the 'GOAT.' Now, after a long layoff and recovering from his injuries, he has a chance to put himself right back in line for a title shot with a win on Saturday night. As for his fighting style, there is no secret that Santos likes to keep the fight standing. He has an extremely high 71% KO/TKO rate in his victories and he looks to put his opponents to sleep with every shot. During his MMA career, he has had a total of 15 KO/TKO's in 21 of his wins. Also, according to the UFC stats, he lands on average 4.44 significant strikes per minute. Santos and Teixeira will have the same reach in this fight, so there will be no advantage in that department. Even though there are a lot of unknowns with Santos in this fight due to his long layoff, he's as professional as they come and I think he'll be very prepared and ready to go once they're locked in the octagon. But, if this fight goes to the ground or becomes a grappling match it could get interesting as Teixeira has 8 submission wins in his career. With that being said, I have a feeling Santos will be able to keep this fight standing and ultimately make a statement with a finish from a vicious combo. Hammer the 'Hammer,' let's take Santos to take this one by KO/TKO over Teixeira.
Prediction: Santos (-230)
Bulldogs Risky Pick: Santos by KO/TKO (-155)
