UFC Fight Night: Main Event- Brian Ortega vs Korean Zombie Odds, Preview, and Predictions!

We have a banger on Saturday night that will be a war between 2 of the top featherweights in the UFC. Brian Ortega will be taking on Chan Sung Jung for what could be a top contender fight with the winner likely in line for a title shot, so... expect fireworks in this fight.

Main Event

Featherweight Matchup (145): Brian Ortega (14-1-0, 1 NC) vs. Chan Sung Jung (16-5-0)

It's been quite the layoff for Ortega. He hasn't fought since December 2018 when he took on Max Holloway for the Featherweight championship. He took a prolonged beating in that fight and it was ultimately stopped by the doctor in between rounds 4 and 5. That was Ortega's first career loss as he was on a 6 fight winning streak in the UFC before his title shot. He essentially went 'off the grid' for a few years, but managed to start a rivalry with Sung Jung when Ortega slapped the Korean Zombie's friend and translator, Jay Park, at a UFC event in March 2020. They're finally squaring off on Saturday and I have a feeling it's a 'submission or bust' fight for Ortega. 7 out of his 14 victories have come by submission (some by spectacular fashion, below) and it's no secret where Ortega wants this fight to take place. However, over the course of his career, his boxing has gotten better as he was able to score a KO finish over Frankie Edgar in March 2018, but he really struggles with elite strikers and counter punchers. There's a lot of questions marks for Ortega coming into this fight because of his extended layoff, and it will be tough to predict the improvements and/or adjustments he's made to his game since his last fight in 2018. He absorbs a high volume of 7.36 strikes per minute in the UFC and he will need to sharpen up his defense if he has any chance of winning a stand up battle.

On the other side of the Octagon, Sung Jung's record isn't sexy at 16-5, but he's one of the most devastating finishers in the division (vid below). The Korean Zombie is riding a 2 fight win streak with KO victories over Renato Moicano and Frankie Edgar. Both of these victories came by vicious knockouts in the 1st round. He would have a 4 fight win streak, but in November 2018 he lost by a last second KO from Yair Rodríguez in what was one of the craziest finishes in the history of the UFC. The Korean Zombie is known as a finisher and has only gone to decision 13% of the time. He's a master on the feet as he has a black belt in Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Judo. The Korean Zombie also has 8 submissions in his career, so he's no slouch on the ground either. However, Ortega is most likely better on the ground than the Korean Zombie, but Sung Jung is much better on the feet than Ortega and this is where I see the fight playing out. Unless Ortega can grab Sung Jung's neck in a wild scramble, I can't see him beating him on the feet, or on points. I see the Korean Zombie piecing up Ortega on the feet with nasty counter-shots and putting him out later in the fight. Ortega has proven to be very durable in his UFC career, so I doubt the Korean Zombie can put him out with one shot, so let's go with Sung Jung for a late KO/TKO win.

Prediction: Sung Jung (-200)

Bulldogs Risky Pick: Sung Jun by KO/TKO (+120)
