NFL Week 5 Early games Preview, Prediction and Picks
We made it to week five, well kind of. Only a couple of games pushed back to Monday/Tuesday, a few players put on COVID-IR, and well way too many secret practices at the local high school by the Tennesse Titans. Did the Titans think no one would notice a bunch of gigantic athletes tossing the ball around? Either way, as of now no games are canceled so let's break them down.
Arizona Cardinals at New York Jets
Even while playing at Death Trap Stadium the Jets are big underdogs at home.
An injured defense and a dreadful offense led to the Cardinals losing to the Panthers in week 4. It's no secret the run game has been terrible well other than Kyler Murray but you know he plays QB for them not running back.
The passing game has been too great either as overall the Cardinals are 22nd in yards per drive so far this year. Thankfully the Cardinals are getting back safety Budda Baker and CB Dre Kirkpatrick this week as they got torched without them last week.
New York Jets
Last week was a mess for the Jets, as their young "promising" starting QB was injured and for some reason just put back in the game even though he is out due to that injury this week...To make things worse defensive coordinator Greg Williams has turned the Jets defense into bounty gate round 2, as I don't think I have even seen so many dirty hits attempted towards the other teams QB. Le’Veon Bell was activated off IR and will be back for this game and hh ya, Joe Flacco is starting QB for the Jets this week.
The Jets defense has been solid so far this year against the run but has a questionable secondary. The Cardinals can't run the ball this year effectively at all and for the Jets that actually makes things worse as the ball will be in Kyler Murray's hands a lot more and he has been magic all season. It would take a Joe Flacco flashback performance for the Jets to win this one. Cardinals win.
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons
Even at 0-4, the Falcons are small home favorites.
The Panthers a young team with a new coach and QB have improved as the season goes on, who would have thought? DT Kawann Short came back in week 3 and the run defense has improved dramatically, allowing almost 2 yards less per-carry since his return. Teddy Big Dick Bridgewater has arrived in Carolina and the offense has finally started to put points on the board.
Dan Quinn must be a part cat because he has been killed at least 7 times over the past two years and somehow has still not been fired. Forget the blown leads for a second, the Falcons are injured on both sides of the ball. Sounds like Julio Jones will be out for this game and I don't know if anyone in the Atlanta secondary is healthy right now.
This game comes at a terrible time for the Falcons as I really think its a game they could win when healthy. The Panthers offense and defense continue to improve and they are taking on an injured Falcons team. The Panthers keep rolling and take this one.
Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens
To no ones surprise the Ravens big home favorites.
Joe Mixon ran for 151 to lead the Bengals to the first win of the season and the first of Joe Burrow's career last week. Does Joe Burrow have a nickname yet, I mean he was pretty big in college and the number 1 pick he must have one. Just a second I'm going to Google it.
Ah ok the Tiger King King, Bengals, and LSU makes sense. Now we got that out of the way, the Bengals defense was not very good at all last week but DT Geno Atkins will be back this week.
The Ravens defense is hurting right now as Marlon Humphrey could be the only healthy starting CB for this one. The Ravens just ran all over Washington but have not yet looked impressive through the air. Also if TE Mark Andrews is out it would make their passing game even worse then it has been.
The Bengals won't be able to run the ball in this game like they did last week as they are facing one the best run defenses in the NFL. The Bengals will be able to pass the ball, well when burrow is not on his back. The Ravens have just run on everyone and should be able to do the same in this one even Geno Atkins back. I see Baltimore winning this one but the Bengals will put up points on this injured secondary.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans
In the battle for who has the worst run defense in the NFL, the Texans are favorites at home.
The jags run defense may be one of the worst in the league as Joe Mixon ran for 151 last week. Offensively the Jags looked improved with number one WR DJ Chark back but just couldn't score enough points to keep up how bad their defense was. Starting MLB, OLB and DB are all questionable for this one. o its possible their defense could be even worse if any of Myles Jack, Josh Allen, or CJ Henderson doesn't play in this one.
Butt Chin Bill O'Brien made some terrible trades over the past year but his job has been safe well until he pissed off Captain America JJ Watt last week then got fired. The Texans are a bit of a Wild Card this week, with Romie Crenel taking over as interim head coach. Similar to the Jags, the Texans can not stop the run and could not outscore their terrible defense as they got run all over by Dalvin Cook for 130 yards.
Both teams struggle on defense, especially in regards to stoping teams running the football. The Jags d is coming into this one with multiple stars that could be out and the Texans will take advantage of that. Texans wins.
Las Angeles Rams at Washington Football Team
The Rams are big road favorites.
Las Angeles Rams
The Rams had to grind out a win last week as their strong rushing attack was limited by the Giants sneaky good run d. The Rams defense has been impressive so far this year ranking 10th in NFL based on yards per-drive allowed. Also, one of the few teams with limited injuries and COVID scares, which now more than ever health is a major advantage.
Washington Football Team
Starting QB Dwayne Haskins has been benched for Kyle Allen. When your starting QB is benched midseason, you know it has been a rough season. Kyle Allen the dump-off king was the future starter of the Carolina Panthers last year for like a minute but then he blew his load and is on Washington now. The o-line and d-line are very beaten up but Chase Young is back and he is a game-changer for their defense.
Washington is the second-worst team in the NFL when it comes to passing the football and the Rams are the seventh-best in regards to stopping the pass. If the Rams can get a lead early Washington will not be able to keep up. Kyle Allen in his first start for the Football Team struggles and the Rams take this one.
Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs
Raiders' struggles at Arrow Head Stadium lead to them being 11 point dogs in this one.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders defense might not be able to stop anyone, injuries aide they can't stop the pass and they can't stop the run. Their two wins this year came when they scored 34 points and considering their defensive ability that adds up. The offense didn't look bad but they couldn't run the ball and don't have the talent(yet) to throw the ball effectively when that happens. WR Ruggs should be back this game and should help the passing game become even more effective.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs offense did not look good against the Patriots and the team still ended up with 26 points. A lot of this is to do with the defense that deserves more respect then it has got in the past. Chris Jones healthy and playing, things will only get better.
The Chiefs' offensive struggles were partly to do with them being a bit off and then add in they faced a tough Patriots defense this game sets up for them to rebound and put points on the board. The Raiders' defense can't stop anyone, so it will be up to the offense to keep up. Derek Carr has struggled at Arrow Head but there also will be limited fans, either way, the Raiders get blown out in this one.
Philadelphia Eagles at Pittsburgh Steelers
After their COVID bye week, the Steelers are home favorites.
The Eagles are utilizing the no-name brand at WR and were able to get the victory last week. The main reason they won is their defensive line as it is one of the best in the NFL right now and is pressuring the other teams QB non-stop. The Eagles will not be getting any of their starting WRs back this week but at least no new injuries on the offensive line. So their 27th ranked offense will not get any extra help but at least it is set up to improve will a somewhat healthier O-line.
The Steelers got the first COVID induced bye week and didn't seem very happy about it. Apparently, even millionaire NFL players get made when you mess with their scheduled vacations as their original bye week was changed to week 4 because like half the Titans got COVID. The Steelers have looked like a scary team on both sides of the ball but also have only played one team that has got a win this year so far.
Both d-lines are very scary and will have a major impact on this game. The one main difference is the talent on the offensive side of the ball, as the Steelers have multiple game-changers at both RB and WR. Carson Wentz again is going to have to hold the ball while he waits for someone to get open and you can't do that against this defense. Steelers win.
