NFL Sunday Night Football: Las Vegas Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs Preview, Odds, and Prediction
We have a highly anticipated AFC West divisional matchup on Sunday night. The Las Vegas Raiders will host the Kansas City Chiefs in what should be one of the 'games of the week.' Let's breakdown what to expect in this one...
Las Vegas Raiders (+280) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (-360)... Spread: Chiefs (-7.5)
The Raiders are sitting at 6-3 on the season and have created a distinct identity for themselves on the field. A heavy run game and a stingy defensive unit is what the Raiders are about. In week 10, they beat the Denver Broncos 37-12 led by a strong performance from their defense. They had 4 INT's in that game and dominated an offense that can be very explosive. But, the Chiefs are a completely different animal as their offense is arguably the best in the league. The defense will need to come up big in this game and limit the Chiefs to field goals because the Raiders offense has difficulties mounting comebacks when they are behind in games. QB Derek Carr has been playing well enough to win games, but his numbers have not been good this season. In week 10, he only managed to put up 154 passing yards on 16 completions against a depleted Broncos defensive unit. He will need to play much better if the Raiders want to keep up with the Chiefs stacked offense. The Raiders were led by their 2 RB's, Josh Jacobs and Devontae Booker, who totalled 193 rushing yards and added 4 TD's on the ground against the Broncos. The Raiders continue to dominate on the ground, but this strategy only works if they can get a lead in the game, or if it's a close contest throughout.
On the other side of the field, the 8-1 Chiefs have had an impressive year after their Super Bowl season last year. But, their 1 loss this season came to their opponents this week, the Raiders. Earlier this season, the Raiders defeated the Chiefs 40-32 to make a statement against the defending Super Bowl champs. However, since then, the Chiefs have been flawless and are coming off a close win over the Carolina Panthers 33-31. QB Patrick Mahomes has been lights out again this year and is coming off a huge game. In week 10 against the Panthers, Mahomes threw for 372 yards and 4 TD's. His top 2 targets in 2020 have been WR Tyreek Hill and TE Travis Kelce. In week 10, these 2 combined for 272 receiving yards and 2 TD's and will look to have another big game this week. But, 1 letdown for this Chiefs offense has been rookie RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He was expected to make an immediate impact coming out of the 2020 draft, but he has struggled to find consistency in his game. Also, the mid-season addition of RB Le'Veon Bell has impacted his playing time as Bell is getting more and more comfortable in the offense each week. I believe this will be a revenge game for the Chiefs and they will come into Las Vegas and pick up the victory on the road. The Chiefs offense seems to be getting better every week as they're recovering from their Super Bowl hangover. We can expect a high scoring game Sunday night, so let's hammer the Chiefs .
Prediction: Chiefs -7.5 (-105)
