NFL Monday Night Football: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview, Odds, and Prediction
The Monday night showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks has major playoff implications. Both teams are battling for 1st place in their divisions, so let's see how these 2 squads matchup...
Philadelphia Eagles (+240) vs. Seattle Seahawks (-290)... Spread: Seahawks (-6.5)
The 3-6-1 Eagles have a chance here to re-claim 1st place in the NFC East after the Giants took over with a win on Sunday over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Eagles have had a forgetful season so far, but they are still the frontrunners to win their division and claim a playoff spot. In week 11, the Eagles lost to the Cleveland Browns 22-17 in a game where they looked extremely flat. QB Carson Wentz has had a shaky season so far, but it's not all on his shoulders with the injuries on the offensive side of the ball and the inability of the offensive line to block consistently. Also, his WR options all season have shifted a lot and he's relying on rookie Jalen Reagor to be the number 1 guy at the moment. He was drafted in the 1st round in the 2020 NFL draft and with the injuries to Desean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, and TE Zach Ertz, Reagor will be relied on heavily down the stretch to perform. For the Eagles, to stay close in this game and have a chance to pull off the upset, it will come down to the play of Wentz and the offensive line. Their defense is good, but the Seahawks loaded offense will definitely put up a lot of points, so it will be up to Wentz and the Eagles offense to match their output.
The Seahawks are in the toughest division in football, so every game is important despite their impressive 7-3 record. They are battling for 1st place in the NFC West in a tight race with the Los Angeles Rams and the Arizona Cardinals. In week 11, the Seahawks won a key divisional game over the Cardinals 28-21. The Seahawks may have the most potent offense in the league, which is led by QB Russel Wilson and his 1-2 punch at WR, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett. In week 11, they combined for 113 yards receiving with 2 TD's and seem to dominate opposing defenses every week. However, the Eagles have struggled against the run all year and this is where I can see the Seahawks taking over in this game. Also, the Seahawks will get RB Chris Carson back in the lineup this week and they will look to get a winning streak started after going 1-2 in their last 3 games. The RB duo of Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde has been effective because both RB's bring a different dynamic to the offense and are difficult to gameplan for with all the other weapons on the offense as well. With that being said, the Seahawks are the much better team and will look to make a statement in a primetime spot. The -6.5 spread is quite large, but let's take the Seahawks to cover the spread on the road in what could be a shootout.
Prediction: Seahawks -6.5 (-115)
