NFL Monday Night Football: Los Angelas Rams vs. Chicago Bears Preview, Odds, and Prediction
The last game of week 7 on Monday night is a showdown between the Los Angelas Rams and the Chicago Bears. We finally have the highly anticipated Goff vs. Foles matchup that we've waited all year for.
Los Angelas Rams (-260) vs. Chicago Bears (+215)... Spread: Rams (-6)
Who would have guessed the Bears would be 5-1 through 6 weeks...? Definitely not me. But, if it weren't for miracle 4th quarter comebacks against the Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Falcons, the Bears would be a modest 3-3. The Bears are currently sitting on top of the NFC North and are in a race for first place against the Green Bay Packers. Normally when we preview a 5-1 team, we don't have to address 'QB controversies.' However, the Bears have flip flopped between QB's Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles this season and there's still not much clarity at the position. Foles has been subpar in relief of Trubisky and is coming off a 198 passing yard with 1 TD and 1 INT performance against the Carolina Panthers in week 6. As a result, the Bears have needed to find a spark elsewhere on offense. After RB Tarik Cohen went down with an injury, RB David Montgomery has been the main focal point of the offense in the backfield, as well as a weapon in the passing game. In week 6, Montgomery had 97 yards from scrimmage and served as the workhorse in the Bears offense, which led them to a 23-16 win. But, the main reason why the Bears are 5-1 is their defense. Led by LB Khalil Mack, the Bears defense has only allowed on average 19 points per game. They will need to come up big again against this potent Rams offense if they have any chance to win.
The Rams are looking like the Super Bowl contenders from their run in the 2018 season. The Rams success has much to do with the consistency of the their defense that has been lights out for the most part. They have all-star talent that includes Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey who have been dominant as the Rams defense is finding numerous ways to shut down opposing offenses. Donald is on a mission this year and already has 7.5 sacks in 6 games, which is currently second in the league behind Myles Garrett. But, he will look to add to that total Monday night and regain the sack total lead in the NFL. The Rams defense has only allowed on average 19 points per game this season, but are coming off a 24-16 loss to the San Fransisco 49ers in week 6. So, look for Donald and the rest of the Rams front 7 to get to Foles early and often in this game. On offense, the Rams and QB Jared Goff have been inconsistent with their production. But, he has a lot of weapons on the outside with WR's Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and Josh Reynolds. Also, he has a solid weapon at TE in Gerald Everett who has big play ability. The Rams offense will need to figure out a way to put up points against a stingy Bears defense, and that begins with the play of Goff. Iv'e been looking for a spot to fade the Bears all year and I think this is a good time to do it while they're on the road in LA. The Rams offense has been inconsistent, but they have a lot of weapons on both sides of the ball that can change the game and I believe their defense will dominate the Bears unimpressive offense. The spread is pretty wide at -6, but let's take the Rams to cover in primetime in their home stadium.
Prediction: Rams Cover -6 Spread (-105)
