NFL Monday Night Football: Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots Preview, Odds, Predictions!

We have a rare back-to-back on Monday night with the 2 quarterbacks from State Farm in action (below). The first game I'm going to cover the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots with a blockbuster showdown between Patrick Mahomes and Brain Hoyer.

Kansas City Chiefs (-670) vs. New England Patriots (+435)... Spread: Chiefs (-11.5)

COVID has finally affected the NFL, and this game is now a Monday nighter. Earlier this week, QB Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 and he won't be able to suit up for this week 4 matchup. As a result, this game went from being an intriguing matchup to a likely one-sided affair because QB Brian Hoyer will step in for Newton against the former Super Bowl champs. This changes the whole dynamic of the Patriots offense as Hoyer is a much different style QB than Newton. With Newton, the Patriots have done most of their damage through the running game, but the playbook will be limited with Hoyer under center. RB James White will be back in this game to complete the 3 headed monster with Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead (Sonny Michel now out). Also, RB Damien Harris was taken off the IR too so the RB committee for the Patriots looks strong going forward. Despite their strong running game, the Patriots defense will have to win them this game because their offense will struggle against this Chiefs defense that limited QB Lamar Jackson to just 97 passings yards in week 3.

The Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes made a statement in week 3 by dominating the Baltimore Ravens 34-20. Mahomes threw for 385 passings yards and 4 TD's against a stingy Ravens defense. Opposing defenses have an impossible task of stopping the Chiefs offense because their weapons are endless. Mahomes has the luxury of throwing to WR's Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Sammy Watkins, and TE Travis Kelce. Unless Belichick has the best coaching game of his life, it's doubtful the Patriots will be able to keep up with the Chiefs offense. Also, if the Chiefs jump on the Patriots early and often, look for a big performance from Edwards-Helaire in this game. This game probably isn't worth betting on because the line is very wide and I don't know what to expect from the Patriots, but I'm going to go with the Chiefs to cover the massive 11.5 spread.

Prediction: Chiefs Spread -11.5 (-115)
