NFL Monday Night Football: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens Preview, Odds, and Prediction!
We have a battle between the heavyweights on Monday night with a showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. Both of these teams are undefeated, but this will change for one of them after Monday.
Kansas City Chiefs (+140) vs. Baltimore Ravens (-160)... Spread: Ravens (-3)
Which star QB will reign supreme on Monday night? The $500 million dollar man Patrick Mahomes has had a relatively average start to the season (by his standards). He is only averaging 256.5 passing yards per game so far, and it won't get any easier Monday night. The Chiefs were very lucky to escape week 2 with an overtime win over the Chargers... a team that just lost to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Mahomes only passed for 2 TD's in week 2, and he will need to score much more in this game to match the Ravens offensive output. Also, the emergence of rookie RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been a storyline for the Chiefs thus far in 2020. In Week 1, Edwards-Helaire had 138 rushing yards on 25 carries and 1 touchdown. However, he followed that up with a lackluster week 2 performance where he only managed to get 70 yards from scrimmage. Luckily for him, it was enough to complete the 23-20 comeback over the Los Angelas Chargers because of their strong supporting cast that includes Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and others. All of the offensive stars on the Chiefs will need to come up big in this game because we know QB Lamar Jackson and the Ravens will put up points on the Chiefs' below average pass defense. They will need a big game from DT Chris Jones and the rest of the pass rushers to disrupt Jackson's rhythm, and limit the Ravens running attack.
On the other side of the field, the Ravens offense is as dynamic as it gets. Even though most of their damage is done through the running game with QB Lamar Jackson, and RB's Mark Ingram and J. K. Dobbins (and even Gus Edwards), their passing game has been much improved with the play of TE Mark Andrews. Andrews has been reliable in the redzone for Jackson as he has 2 TD's thus far. On the outside, the Ravens have speedy WR threat Marquise Brown who likes to burn secondaries for explosive plays. He's been their most productive WR this season and he will be an x-factor in week 3 against the Chiefs. Also, the Ravens have addressed their needs on the defensive side of the ball that has led to an improved run defense, along with their pass rush defense. This was addressed with the free agent additions of DE's Calais Campbell and Derek Wolfe to strengthen their defensive front. Mahomes will also have his hands full with the Ravens secondary that has standout CB's Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters who will look to nullify WR Tyreek Hill.
The Ravens defense is much more well rounded than the Cheifs defense and this will be the deciding factor in this game. I believe the Ravens defense will have timely stops against Mahomes and the Chiefs offense to allow Jackson the ability to pull away in this one. Also, the Ravens are a great 'season team' compared to their performances in the playoffs. You're getting solid value with the Ravens moneyline at -155, but if you want to play it risky for higher stakes, you can take the Ravens -3 spread for a -120 value.
Prediction: Ravens Spread -3 (-120)
