Monday Night Football
Buffalo Bills (+210) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (-250)... Spread: Chiefs (-5.5)
The Bills are coming off a week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans where they got demolished 42-16. However, the Bills still have an impressive record at 4-1, but this will be a huge 'prove it' game for the Bills as they have struggled against the top tier teams in the NFL. QB Josh Allen's MVP season came to a sudden halt when he ran into the Titans last week. He managed to put up a modest 263 yards passing with 2 TD's, but he also threw 2 INT's that proved to be costly. He will need to protect the ball much better this week because if you give the Chiefs good field position, they will take advantage and pull away on the scoreboard. Also, Allen will get WR John Brown back in the lineup this week and will look to open up the field with his speed. Brown serves as a great compliment to WR Stefon Diggs, and they will look to expose a Chiefs defense that just allowed 40 points to the Las Vegas Raiders. On the other side of the ball, the Bills defense went from being one of the best overall teams last year, to a below average defense stats-wise this year. They are having a difficult time getting to opposing QB's and this has allowed QB's to torch them because they are getting a lot of time in the pocket. Luckily for them, it looks like CB Tre'Davious White is back this week and that will help neutralize the Chiefs potent offense.
The defending Super Bowl champs, the Chiefs, had their undefeated record snapped in week 5 to the Las Vegas Raiders. They lost the game 40-32 in what turned into a shootout where surprisingly the Chiefs didn't come out on top. QB Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs usually like high scoring affairs because of their stacked offense that includes Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and... soon to be Le'Veon Bell. We know the Chiefs offense will always put up points, but the achilles heel is their defense. While their defense isn't that bad on paper, they tend to have 'stinkers' from time-to-time, as shown with their 40 points allowed in week 5 against the Raiders. But, before week 5, the defense was really solid and only allowed on average 17.5 points per game. So, let's not recency bias impact our thoughts on the Chiefs defense because they were playing solid football up until last week. Even though the Chiefs had a very sloppy performance in week 5, I can't see them coming out the same way against the Bills. They are too good of a football team and are well coached with Andy Reid, so I have a feeling they will come out strong in this game and step on the Bills' throat. Mahomes should have lots of time in the pocket against this Bills defense that struggles to get to the QB, and I see him tearing apart the Bills all game by spreading the ball around the field. I expect this game to be close throughout, but let's go with the Chiefs to pull away late and just cover the -5.5 spread in this crucial AFC matchup.
Prediction: Chiefs -5.5 (-115)
