Nashville Predators vs. Arizona Coyotes Odds, Prediction, and Picks!
Puck Drop: Wednesday, August 5, 2020, 2:30 PM (EDT)
The Predators were the more efficient team on Tuesday as they evened the series 1-1 against the Coyotes. The Predators won 4-2, but the two goals from the Coyotes came late in the 3rd period (garbage time). Now, on a back-to-back, these two will face off Wednesday afternoon to determine who will take the lead in this series. The Coyotes offense came out flat in Game 2 and allowed the Predators to jump to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Taylor Hall looked noticeably frustrated on the ice and even got into a tussle with Ryan Ellis, which is uncharacteristic of him. The Coyotes cannot come out flat in this one and fall behind against a Predators team with a strong defensive game and dynamic offensive attack. We have yet to see Nick Schmaltz in this series after getting injured in the exhibition game, and it does not look like he will not play in the second half of a back-to-back. He is a key component of their offense as he was first on their team in scoring this year (aside from Taylor Hall who they acquired in a trade).
Also, something to consider is the quick turnaround of this game and the status of the goaltending. Coyotes backup Antti Raanta left the Coyotes bench during Game 2 and it looks like it will have to be Darcy Kuemper regardless. This could have major implications during the game if Kuemper gets off to a rough start and/or looks fatigued in this back-to-back. Saros looked very sharp in Game 2 and is expected to get the nod in Game 3, but the Predators will be comfortable having Pekka Rinne as insurance as the backup.
I expect the Predators to build off the momentum in their Game 2 win and take Game 3. Their top 3 lines are well balanced and have a good mix of size and speed that is difficult for defenders to handle. I can't see this young Coyotes team making the necessary adjustments to handle the pressure and depth of the Predators. Look for the Predators' top line of Forsberg-Johansen-Arvidsson to continue their domination in this series.
