Monday Night Football: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Washington Football Team Preview, Odds, Predictions!
The first game of the Monday doubleheader features a battle between 2 veteran QB's looking to improve their playoff positions. The undefeated Steelers put their spotless record on the line against the Football Team who is looking to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-280) vs. Washington Football Team (+230)... Spread: Steelers (-6.5)
Despite their unbeaten record, the Steelers have had to deal with a lot of adversity off the field because a couple of their opponents have delayed games due to positive COIVD tests. As a result, their schedule has been shifted around a few times, but that hasn't stopped them from being the best team in the league. At 11-0, the Steelers are coming off of a 19-14 win over their division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers have a loaded offense, but they will be without their starting RB again in this one as James Conner is out due to 'illness.' RB Benny Snell Jr. will get the start and he has proven that he can be a viable option off the bench. In relief against the Ravens, Snell Jr. had 93 yards from scrimmage against a good defense, and he will be tested again this week when he faces a stingy Football Team defense. However, the win in week 12 came at a cost. The Steelers will be without LB Bud Dupree for the rest of the year due to injury. This will be a major blow to this defense that already lost LB Devin Bush earlier in the season. Now, offenses can game plan and throw more double teams at LB TJ Watt, so the Steelers will have to rely on the 'next man up' approach to fill the void on their defense once again. Their defense will still be a problem and create turnovers, but it will be interesting to see how much they will be impacted by the injury. The Football Team offense isn't too dominant, so I expect the Steelers' defense to have another big performance in this one though.
The Football Team is still battling for 1st place in the NFC East despite only having a 4-7 record. However, the New York Giants shocked the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday with a 17-12 win, so now there's extra pressure for the Football Team to keep pace. They will be led by QB Alex Smith, who many thought would never see the field again after his gruesome injury. Smith has always been a solid QB, but he's never been that guy to carry a team and put up big numbers. In week 12, Smith only threw for 149 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT in a blowout 41-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Football Team has 2 main weapons on offense as RB Antonio Gibson and WR Terry McLaurin, as both have proven to be game-breakers this season. They will need both of them to step up again this week if they want to keep up with the Steelers offense. I can almost guarantee that the players and staff expected the Giants to lose to the Seahawks on Sunday, so there will be added pressure in this game for the Football Team. The -7 spread for the Steelers is quite wide considering the Football Team's defense is stingy and can make stops regularly. However, I believe that the Steelers will come out on top in this one, but I think it will be closer than the line suggests. Let's take the Football Team at +6.5 in what could be a very low scoring game.
Prediction: Football Team +6.5 (-115)
