Monday Night Football: NFL Preview, Odds, Picks, and Money Parlay
The Steelers and Giants will go to battle in the first Monday night game, while Derrick Henry and the Titans look to build momentum off their 2019-2020 season against the Broncos.
Monday Night Picks
Pittsburgh Steelers (-275) vs New York Giants (+225)... Spread: Steelers (-6.5)
Will the return of Ben Roethlisberger (Big Ben) make the Steelers a Super Bowl contender? The Steelers were carried by their defense last year and finished the season 8-8. The they have one of the best young defensive cores in the NFL with Minkah Fitzpatrick, TJ Watt and Devin Bush. They were 27th ranked in starting field position last year, and this was due to their inexperience at QB. This year, the defense should get much more rest and better field position with Big Ben back in action. Also, Juju Smith-Schuster had a down year last year and will look to get on track with the return of Big Ben. On the other side, the Giants are led by RB Saquon Barkley and QB Daniel Jones. They will need to help out Barkley this year because teams would load up the box last year as he rarely faced 6 or fewer man boxes. But, they did not get much WR help to balance out the offense. There 3 top receivers are Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate and Darius Slayton. Unless they have breakthrough years, Barkey will need to shoulder the load once again. The Steelers may be able to blow this game wide open with their stellar defense and juggernaut offense, but let's go with the Steelers straight up in this one as the spread is pretty wide.
Prediction: Steelers (-275).. Look to use Steelers as a parlay piece.
Tennesse Titans (-170) vs. Denver Broncos (+150)... Spread: Titans (-3)
The Titans are coming off an impressive 2019-2020 campaign where they shocked the league with their playoff victories over the Ravens and Patriots. They will look to use that momentum going into week 1 this season. The smash mouth game plan of the Titans and the resurgence of Ryan Tannehill makes them a difficult team to keep up with. Newly signed RB Derrick Henry was a touchdown machine and force last season and in the playoffs that no one could contain. Also, the Titans just signed defensive stud Jadeveon Clowney who will look to improve their defense which was ranked 12th overall last year, according to Pro Football Reference. He will be itching to get after the Broncos QB if he gets regular snaps. Drew Lock will get QB1 duties for the Broncos and have a chance to prove himself as a starting QB in the NFL. He went 4-1 down the stretch last year when he was called upon, but will have a tough season opener against the Titans. But, they got Lock help this offseason by signing RB Melvin Gordon to play alongside Phillip Lindsay, as well as drafted WR Jerry Jeudy in the first round in 2020. However, on defense, the Broncos will be without Von Miller indefinitely due to injury and this is a massive loss for them as they look to have a bounce back year. I would have leaned towards the Broncos to upset the Titans if Miller was active, but I believe the Titans can pull off the road win in this one.
Prediction: Titans (-170)
